Fool Me Once...

So.... I hit the panic button at work on accident....again..... Clearly this is starting to become a problem. My subconscious apparently can't stand the thought of a button going un-pushed. [What if it feels left out because all the other buttons get pushed and it doesn't?!] The first time it happened I was still in training at my job. I was mildly perplexed as a couple security officers came running up to my desk, asking who had pressed the panic button. As everyone around denied pressing it, I had a vague recollection of playing with, and possibly pushing, something under the desk just minutes before... [my fingers had found a button, of course I pushed it! And of course I didn't look to see what I was pushing.... or that it was red...] After reassuring the officer that nothing was amiss, just a new hire who had no idea that panic buttons actually existed in real life[they do], they took down my name and ID # and made me promise to not push it again.

2 months later.......

I pushed it again. Totally on accident. Again. It was April Fool's day, so the police were a little amused. But not enough to keep from warning me that I can only press it a certain number of times until they start charging me for it. I seriously can't even remember pushing it this time! Mostly. Now I just have to stay away from that part of the desk, especially when I get bored. At least my red button only launches a squad of action-hungry policemen rather than, say, nuclear warfare, right??
